Stephen Harper may not be able to break wooden boards as well as some of us in the martial arts community, but his breaks when it comes to taxes are something we can hold a mutual respect with him for.
What are you getting?
The benefit itself would double the current rebate a parent can receive, from $75 to $150 dollars. This is done by doubling the amount a parent can claim for their child’s activities from $500 to $1000.
In addition, Harper plans to extend the $500 benefit to adults, so they too have incentive to act on their dreams of grandeur as they watch their children play sports. We know that some of you imagine how good you would be in the ring or on the field (hopefully against other adults), so this might be something to consider alongside your thoughts of personal health and longevity as you build your future into something to be proud of.
When can you expect it?
Like our kung-fu and martial arts masters, who encourage us to develop a keen sense of balance in the ring, Harper has decided that this benefit should be extended our way no sooner than when the budget is balanced (2015 by some estimates I believe). So while some of us are upset that we don’t get our goodies NOW (which I believe is not a virtue we learn as martial artists), others see a responsible decision with promising benefits to millions of families throughout Canada.
How we feel about encouraging fitness:
Being alive really is a valuable experience, so along with this tax break we want to remind our readers (both Canadian and internationally) that you shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to experience martial arts philosophy and learn new martial arts skills to add to your portfolio of life. Your health, your personality and your outlook on life all stand to gain from new experiences such as this.
Who qualifies?
An expert panel will decide which sports qualify for the new benefits, but I feel assured by the martial artists all throwing karate chops in the background as he made this announcement that our SKF members will receive these benefits:
